Topic of keynote (brief description): Integrating theories of intertextuality and transduction, I demonstrate how a podcast's fandom and its unique way of communicating, or "fanilect," are created linguistically and multimodally across media (including the podcast recordings, online fan communication, interviews with the podcasters, and the podcast's online shop).

Biography: Cynthia Gordon is a Professor of Linguistics at Georgetown University. She is author of Making Meanings, Creating Family: Intertextuality and Framing in Family Interaction (Oxford University Press, 2009) and Intertextuality 2.0: Metadiscourse and Meaning-making in an Online Community (Oxford University Press, 2023). She co-edited Family Talk: Discourse and Identity in Four American Families (with Deborah Tannen and Shari Kendall; Oxford University Press, 2007) and Identity and Ideology in Digital Food Discourse: Social Media Interactions Across Cultural Contexts (with Alla Tovares; Bloomsbury, 2021); she is editor of Approaches to Discourse Analysis (Georgetown University Press, 2020). Gordon, a 2012-2013 Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University, is on the editorial boards of Language in Society, the Journal of Language and Social Psychology, and the Journal of Applied Linguistics and Professional Practice.
